Bathroom Cleaning Tips for a Humid Gulf Coast Climate

Bathrooms in Greater New Orleans face a challenge that bathrooms in drier parts of the country simply don't. Ambient humidity here means surfaces stay damp long after a shower ends, and damp surfaces are exactly what mildew needs. A bathroom that would stay clean for two weeks in Arizona can show spotting here in four days.

The single highest-impact habit is ventilation. Run the exhaust fan during every shower and for a full twenty minutes afterward — not five. If the room has a window, crack it. If there's no fan, a small clip fan pointed at the shower makes a real difference. Most recurring mildew problems we're called about are ventilation problems wearing a disguise.

Second: squeegee the shower glass and tile walls after use. It takes about thirty seconds and removes the water that would otherwise sit in grout lines and evaporate into spotting. This one habit does more for shower appearance than any product on the shelf.

Third, treat grout rather than just wiping it. Wiping removes what's on the surface; mildew lives in the porous grout beneath. A dedicated grout treatment left to dwell for several minutes before scrubbing reaches what a quick pass never will. Once it's genuinely clean, consider sealing the grout — sealed grout resists regrowth dramatically better.

Fourth, deal with hard water directly. Chrome fixtures, shower doors, and faucet bases collect mineral deposits that ordinary bathroom spray won't dissolve. An acidic descaler, applied and given time to work, removes them without the abrasive scrubbing that scratches finishes.

Between our visits these habits keep bathrooms in genuinely good shape. When buildup does get ahead of you, our deep cleaning service treats grout, glass, and fixtures properly — and we're happy to point out which specific spots in your bathroom need the most attention.
