Security deposit disputes almost never come down to the obvious things. Nobody loses a deposit because the living room floor wasn't vacuumed. They lose it over the oven, the refrigerator, the inside of the cabinets, and the bathroom grout — the four places inspectors check first and tenants skip most often.
Start with the appliances, because they take the longest. Oven interiors need a degreaser applied and left to dwell before scrubbing; rushing this step is why most DIY attempts fail. Refrigerators should be emptied, shelves removed and washed, and the interior deodorized. Microwave interiors and dishwasher filters both need attention too.
Next, open every cabinet, drawer, closet, and pantry shelf. Wipe the interiors, corners included. Crumbs and shelf liner residue in a kitchen drawer read as 'not cleaned' to an inspector regardless of how good the rest of the unit looks.
Bathrooms need more than a surface pass. Grout lines, hard-water spots on glass and chrome, the base of the toilet, and the underside of the seat all get checked. In our humid climate, mildew at the edge of a shower can reappear within days if it's only wiped rather than properly treated.
Then work the details that signal thoroughness: baseboards, door frames, light switch plates, ceiling fan blades, window sills and tracks, blinds, and vent covers. Finish with all floors — vacuumed and mopped edge to edge, including the strip along the wall that furniture used to cover.
If the timeline is tight or the property is large, a professional move-out clean usually costs a fraction of a withheld deposit. We handle move-out cleaning throughout Kenner, Harahan, Chalmette, Marrero, and the surrounding parishes, and we schedule around closing and lease-end dates.
